The Gatsby Science Enhancement Programme (SEP) supports science education in the UK by providing both producing publication with supporting practical resources and development opportunities to improve classroom practice.
Innovative practical science
SEP develop innovative, high-quality resources for secondary school science at low cost, making them affordable and easily accessible to schools. The ‘Innovations in Practical Work’ series of booklets cover a breadth of science in the curriculum, ranging from looking at the properties of materials and how they are used, such as building materials and alternative fuels, to measuring energy in real-life applications using the SEP Energymeter and SEP wind turbine kit. The resources are created by a team of teachers, technicians, scientists and designers to develop valued resources to secondary school teachers and technicians in the UK.

SEP Associates are also regularly given opportunities to request free publications. Find out how to become an SEP Teacher Associate at http://www.sep.org.uk/joinsep.asp.
Development opportunities
To support science teachers in the use of SEP materials and encourage high-quality practical work in the classroom, SEP has a team of professional development leads who:
-
help teachers to try out new practical activities with their students
-
provide continuing support for teachers engaged with SEP resources
-
invite teachers to meet other SEP Associates in their region.
More information of the training and support offered by SEP can be found at http://www.sep.org.uk/trainingandsupport.asp, including dates of scheduled training courses.
